Same grade, different concrete
M40 SCC and M40 conventional share a strength target and almost nothing else. Specifying SCC because "it flows nicely" is how you end up with a ₹600/m³ premium and segregation cracks at 90 days.
When SCC is the right call
- Heavily reinforced sections (≥ 250 kg/m³ steel)
- Architectural or exposed finishes
- Restricted access pours where vibration is impossible
- Repair and jacketing work
When conventional M40 wins
- Standard structural columns and beams
- Slab pours with normal reinforcement
- Pours where pumping is straightforward
